Mr. J. William “Bill” Holden III

Bill Holden is a strategic and operational leader that over the past 20+ years played a central role in building one of the largest independent power producers in the US. Over the course of his career, he has developed personal strengths in the areas of strategic leadership, where he has developed and executed corporate strategies, including strategic combinations, asset acquisitions and divestitures and organic growth through new projects; operational excellence, where he has driven a seamless integration and achieved cost reduction targets following a corporate merger; financial management, with a broad finance background, including CFO and Treasurer roles, raising over $10 billion and leading M&A activity, divestitures and an IPO; and global perspective where he has gained operational/cultural intelligence living and working in international markets in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Prior to joining the Taffrail Group, Bill was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at GenOnEnergy, Inc., a 22,000 megawatt independent power producer formed by the merger of RRI Energy Inc. and Mirant Corporation. In this capacity he played a lead role in the planning and execution of the merger in 2010 and the integration of the two companies following the merger. He also played a lead role in the planning and execution of a subsequent merger of GenOn and NRG Energy, Inc. in 2012. His responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer included directing the accounting, finance, tax, risk control, human resources and information technology groups. His prior position at Mirant was Senior Vice President and Treasurer where he directed the finance, treasury, insurance, investor relations and risk control functions and directed the company's relationships with financial institutions, lenders and rating agencies. He also played a lead role in the divestiture of the company’s businesses in the Philippines and the Caribbean, as well as certain of its assets in the United States. Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer – Mirant Europe where he directed the finance, accounting, tax, human resources, information technology and risk control functions of the company's European operations, and Vice President and Treasurer where he led all aspects of Mirant's finance/capital raising activities and was a key participant in planning and executing Mirant's $1.3 billion IPO and subsequent spin-off from Southern Company.
Earlier in his career, Bill was with Southern Energy where he was Vice President, South America and Caribbean, responsible for management oversight of the company’s operating subsidiaries in the region and all business development activities in the region, and Vice President, Asia Pacific, where he was responsible for all business development activities in the Asia Pacific region. He started his career at Southern Company Services and held various management positions, ending as Director, Corporate Finance.
Bill received his Master of Business Administration from Emory University, and his B.S. Economics and Political Science from Vanderbilt University.
